Friday Flower: Purple Rockrose

I've been playing with the macro feature of my camera. It's amazing the details that the closeups show. Just for fun, I plan to post a flower a week:

This week's flower is the orchid rockrose, Cistus purpureus. The rockrose is a hearty shrub that survived the freezing temperatures we had that we had in December and January, and had no problem with the 100+ days of July and August. It has been blooming heartily since the end of March. Even after it's done flowering, it's a handsome shrub, with sage-like leaves.

I love the wrinkles this flower has. It makes me think of a girl in a big-skirted dress with high hair back in the '50s or even much further back.

She went to the dance with all her girlfriends because none of them had a date. Her dress got all wrinkled during the ride over in her friend's dad's new Edsel because the girls were so crammed in.

Self-conscious at the gala, she hid in a corner until some BMOC notices her and asks her to dance.

Hmmmm. All that from a wrinkly pink flower. Fun!

PS Since the name is the rockrose, the dance must be a hop and the music '50s rock and roll! The Big Bopper. Bill Haley and the Comets. Buddy Holly. And so many more.

A story in every flower. I love it!
