Pay It Forward

Once again the AW blog chain has arrived. In the last post in the chain, Cath gave a big thank you to people who are willing to take time to share their expertise as scam-busters and mentors. I'll add my thanks as well.

Sometimes I feel like I am being a leech by simply soaking up the information shared by others, since I am not a scam-buster myself and I don't have any inside knowledge of the publishing world. Then I try to remember that I can do my part by simply sharing the knowledge that I do have. That means taking time to read people's questions at the Absolute Write Water Cooler (and the other forums I belong to) and answering the questions that I can - maybe answering a science question, or sharing a good reference web site, or even just saying "hello, welcome to the board". It means doing what I can to help out the people I know in both "the real world" and online. It means giving back at least as much as I take.

I try to do my best, but I know I could do more to "pay it forward". So that's one of my goals for the year: do more for others. Check back next February to see how I did.

I'll now pass the chain over to Brian at the Beyond the Great Chimney Production Log.

Looks like it. I'm using the phrase in the generic sense though.

Man, I loved that movie. And, what a life lesson to keep with you. I think, Peggy, that you do a good job paying it foward. The little things add up, specially when most people don't even do that much.

Cath, great post. And I remember all the things you posted during the AW shutdown - you have contributed a lot in the fight against scammy agents, etc. Don't ever doubt it - all that Google juice adds up.

I'm glad you're part of AW and especially the Blogging forum.

It my experience, the people with the biggest desire to "pay it forward" have been doing it all along, in hundreds of different ways, and not giving themselves enough credit for it.
