WorldCat

Down in my sidebar is a new item: a search box for WorldCat. WorldCat allows you to simultaneously search thousands of libraries worldwide for books, music, videos, articles and more. Their current database includes 13 billion items in 18,000 libraries.

If you don't feel like going to their web site (or using the search box here) you can search via Google or Yahoo Search by including "site:worldcatlibraries.org" in your search parameters. If you find yourself doing frequent searches, you can install their browser toolbar.

This is a very cool tool, particularly if you are looking for something rare or obscure - some library out there probably has a copy!

Thanks for the useful hint for these searches. Because I am not especially technically savvy -- I am always grateful for tips like the one you add to your site. How did you know it was was we needed:-)
