Smoke Gets In My Eyes

It looks like there is a big fire in progress - my guess is along Highway 38 east of Redlands. Smoke is drifting overhead, and you can actually see roiling black smoke in motion. Hopefully it won't cross over to this side of the hills.

Nothing has hit the news yet.
Emerald Fire from Yucaipa

Emerald Fire from Yucaipa
4:20PM ETA: now the sky to the north east is completely dark. Around the fringes the smoke is brown instead of gray or white. Current temperature 99.7°F, 13% humidity, slight wind gusts at 13MPH. That's some fine fire weather.
ETA: It has a name - the Emerald Fire. How lovely.

ETA: Thanks to Robert for pointing out the incident report. The fire is a bit further east than I thought, in the Morton Peak area.

Wednesday AM ETA : Now there is a story in the Press-Enterprise with a map. They are estimating containment by Friday.
Here is a screen grab from GeoMAC with an arrow showing the direction of the photos and an "X" where Highway 38 is closed at Bryant.

ETA: It looks like they've figured out what stated the fire - sparks generated by illegal target shooting!

Thanks Robert! That site has just the information I was looking for. Right now: 2000 acres and spreading rapidly.

Oh, we're fine - it's on the other side of the mountain from us. This morning the smoke has cleared, and the sky is blue again, so the wind must have shifted.
