Today at 5pm Cal plays the BYU Cougars in Las Vegas at the aptly named Las Vegas Bowl*. It's apparently a consolation prize kind of deal. OK, according to the web site it's "the second selection from the Mountain West Conference (MWC) against the fifth selection from the Pac-10 Conference." (Cal was actually in a tie for 4th in the conference). The Chronicle's Scott Ostler explains why BYU might have an edge with the local crowd in Sin City.
The game will be televised on ESPN. Go Bears!
* The full name is actually the "Pioneer PureVision Las Vegas Bowl", which is only marginally better than "San Diego County Credit Union Poinsettia Bowl"
Update: Cal won 35-28, almost snatching defeat from the jaws of victory.
