Pillow Time Without the Pillow

We all have experienced the side effects of even mild sleep deprivation. The result is not only physical tiredness, but a loss of mental alertness as well. Some states (at least New Jersey) even have a "no driving while drowsy" law.

Biology News reports on a recent study showing that a drug (CX717, Cortex Pharmaceuticals) can improve mental functioning while drowsy.
They found that if the monkeys were tired, they couldn't remember the first image for long as they could when they were alert. But with the drug, the sleep-deprived monkeys did at least as well as alert monkeys.
