Elise of Simply Recipes points out that most blenders are designed so that a mason jar can be used in place of the usual "jug". It sounds like a great tip for small jobs or food you'd like to store, such as chopped nuts, whipped cream or grinding spices.
This seems to work even with my inexpensive plastic-jug model.
There is no need to go out an specially buy jars - I have a couple on my shelf that premade sauces came in - thank you Trader Joe's.
